BEGINNER OBEDIENCE I AND II

Class Description.

Level I is designed for dogs and handlers who need to start from the beginning. The purpose of this course is for dogs to learn basic obedience skills (heel, sit, down, stay and come) and for handlers to learn basic cues that can help with good manners and and rules for walking properly with the dog on leash. This course builds a foundation for further learning.

Level II is designed to start where Level I stopped. The purpose of this course is to review the basic skills, add more basic skills, and practice them with all types of distractions, including toys, food, people, dogs, etc..

Spectators are welcome and may drop by to watch classes. It is strongly suggested you check with the Markim office before coming down to be sure of times when classes are scheduled that day.

Duration

For Level I: It is a 3-week/1 hour program with the owners. For Level II: drop in class. The duration of this course is 8-12 weeks, depending on the progress of each individual dog and handler.

 

Skills Learned

By the end of the Level I course, dogs should have learned the basic skills, including heel, sit, down, stay and come.By the end of Level II course, dogs should respond better to the basic commands, should have learned more basic commands like automatic sit, turns, and sit and down at different distances, and should have passed the "Canine Good Citizens" (CGC) certification.

Prerequisites

For Level I: Age: 6 months and older. Immunizations, including rabies, and a clean bill of health from your veterinarian is a must.For Level II: Same requirement above. In addition, the dog must show that he/she already knows the basic skills or must have taken the "Beginner Level I" course.
